Reisdetails van Jordanië
Omschrijving:
In October (18-25) Joyce and I have visited Jordan for 8 days. We had a late afternoon flight from Amsterdam (Schiphol) to Aqaba and arrived at approx 22.00 at our hotel where we were briefed about the next couple of days.
October 18 we drove from Aqaba to Amman and stopped halfway for floating in the Dead Sea.
October 19 City tour in Amman, visiting the Temple of Hercule, Archeologic Museum, Amman Citadel, Amphi theatre, Museum of Folklore and Jordan Museum
October 20 travel from Amman to Madaba, visiting Jerash (temple of Artemis, Harianus-poort, Hippodrome, Nympharum, Cardo Maximus, Forum) and a visit to Um Qais (Goland valley, Galilei lake, Mount Tager)
October 21: travel from Madaba to Petra, visiting Madaba (King's Highway, St. Joris Church with mosaic floor. Kerak (Kruisvaardersburcht), Mount Nebo (view on the Dead Sea, westelijke JOrdaan-oever, Jerusalem, Jericho), visit Wadi Al-Mujib, Petra by night

Tja, Jordanië is misschien niet je eerste keuze op dit moment, met alle onrustige landen eromheen (denk bijv. aan Syrië), maar dat moet je niet weerhouden om het land toch te bezoeken. Jordanië zelf is namelijk heel rustig en van het geweld en de Syrische vluchtelingen hebben wij niets gemerkt. Hoogtepunten van onze reis waren (zoals van zovele reizigers) Petra, de Wadi Rum en de Dode Zee. Behalve deze drie geijkte attracties (die je echt niet mag overslaan) heeft Jordanië veel culturele geschiedenis te bieden en zijn er op tal van plaatsen overblijfselen uit de Romeinse tijd te bezichtigen, zoals bijvoorbeeld de Amman citadel met Amfitheater en Hercules Tempel op de Jabal al Qala'a heuvel in de hoofdstad Amman. Of wat te denken van Jerash, de bestbewaarde ruïnestad in het Nabije Oosten, waar een gigantisch complex te bezoeken is met overblijfselen en deels gerestaureerde bouwwerken, o.a. de Artemistempel, Hadianuspoort, Hippodroom etc. In Madaba (gelegen tussen Amman en Aqaba) vind je de Sint Joriskerk, met een mozaïekvloer, die de oudste landkaart van het Heilige Land uitbeeldt (uit het jaar 560). Vanuit Madaba is het maar een klein stukje naar Mount Nebo, waar Mozes volgens de bijbelse overlevering het Beloofde Land voor het eerst aanschouwde. Bij helder weer zijn Jeruzalem en Jericho zichtbaar, maar ook de Dode Zee en de westelijke Jordaanoever. En dan Petra, ongelooflijk mooi. Je bereikt deze uit rotsen gehouwen verborgen stad, door de 2 km lange Siq door te lopen. Let op, de kloof is bezaaid met stenen en keien, wat in het donker niet te zien is. Neem daarom een zaklamp mee als je Petra by night hebt geboekt. Alleen al de Siq is de moeite meer dan waard, maar je eerste blik op de Schatkamer, als je de Siq door bent, is adembenemend! In de rotsstad zelf is nog zoveel meer te zien, neem daarom de tijd (liefst meer dan 1 dag) om alles te bezichtigen en laat de kunstig uitgehouwen graven rustig op je inwerken. Als je fit bent, kun je ook de klim wagen naar het Klooster (al Deir). In de rotsstad zijn tal van tentjes waar je wat kunt eten of drinken, dus je kunt er makkelijk een hele dag doorbrengen. Wandel, klauter en klim naar de diverse bouwwerken en laat je niet verleiden om een ezeltje of paard te huren: de dieren worden er als beest behandeld!!
De Wadi Rum is ook prachtig! Als je de mogelijkheid hebt, probeer dan een nacht door te brengen bij de Bedoeïenen, een vriendelijk volk. In de Wadi Rum kun je tochten maken per jeep (aan te bevelen) of per kameel/dromedaris. Met de jeep kom je verder de Wadi Rum in en kun je bijvoorbeeld naar de natuurlijke "brug", een rotsformatie die op 20 meter hoogte over een kloof loopt. Bekijk 's nachts ook de geweldige sterrenhemel in de Wadi Rum! Hou wel rekening met eventuele schorpioenen in de woestijn en laat je schoenen 's nachts niet op de grond staan.
De Dode Zee staat bekend om z'n hoge zoutgehalte, waardoor je blijft drijven, een aparte ervaring! Nadeel is dat je de Dode Zee alleen kunt bezoeken via een hotel of resort, maar dat is ook weer een voordeel, omdat je dan ook gebruik kunt maken van de (zoetwater-) douches om al het zout weer van je af te spoelen. Tegen betaling kun je je ook insmeren met mineraalhoudende modder, waar je een zachte huid van krijgt.
In de havenplaats Aqaba kun je naar het strand aan de Rode Zee. Verwacht er niet teveel van, want een mooi strand is het niet en de sanitaire voorzieningen zijn allerbelabberdst. Wel kun je er een (glasbodem-)boot huren, die je verder de zee op brengt, zodat je kunt gaan snorkelen. Vanuit Aqaba is het ook mogelijk om een uitstapje te maken naar Eilat (Egypte).

In de rotsstad zelf is nog zoveel meer te zien, neem daarom de tijd (liefst meer dan 1 dag) om alles te bezichtigen en laat de kunstig uitgehouwen graven rustig op je inwerken. Als je fit bent, kun je ook de klim wagen naar het Klooster (al Deir). In de rotsstad zijn tal van tentjes waar je wat kunt eten of drinken, dus je kunt er makkelijk een hele dag doorbrengen. Wandel, klauter en klim naar de diverse bouwwerken en laat je niet verleiden om een ezeltje of paard te huren: de dieren worden er als beest behandeld!!
De Wadi Rum is ook prachtig! Als je de mogelijkheid hebt, probeer dan een nacht door te brengen bij de Bedoeïenen, een vriendelijk volk. In de Wadi Rum kun je tochten maken per jeep (aan te bevelen) of per kameel/dromedaris. Met de jeep kom je verder de Wadi Rum in en kun je bijvoorbeeld naar de natuurlijke "brug", een rotsformatie die op 20 meter hoogte over een kloof loopt. Bekijk 's nachts ook de geweldige sterrenhemel in de Wadi Rum! Hou wel rekening met eventuele schorpioenen in de woestijn en laat je schoenen 's nachts niet op de grond staan.
De Dode Zee staat bekend om z'n hoge zoutgehalte, waardoor je blijft drijven, een aparte ervaring! Nadeel is dat je de Dode Zee alleen kunt bezoeken via een hotel of resort, maar dat is ook weer een voordeel, omdat je dan ook gebruik kunt maken van de (zoetwater-) douches om al het zout weer van je af te spoelen. Tegen betaling kun je je ook insmeren met mineraalhoudende modder, waar je een zachte huid van krijgt.
In de havenplaats Aqaba kun je naar het strand aan de Rode Zee. Verwacht er niet teveel van, want een mooi strand is het niet en de sanitaire voorzieningen zijn allerbelabberdst. Wel kun je er een (glasbodem-)boot huren, die je verder de zee op brengt, zodat je kunt gaan snorkelen. Vanuit Aqaba is het ook mogelijk om een uitstapje te maken naar Eilat (Egypte).

In October (18-25) Joyce and I have visited Jordan for 8 days. We had a late afternoon flight from Amsterdam (Schiphol) to Aqaba and arrived at approx 22.00 at our hotel where we were briefed about the next couple of days.
October 18 we drove from Aqaba to Amman and stopped halfway for floating in the Dead Sea.
October 19 City tour in Amman, visiting the Temple of Hercule, Archeologic Museum, Amman Citadel, Amphi theatre, Museum of Folklore and Jordan Museum
October 20 travel from Amman to Madaba, visiting Jerash (temple of Artemis, Harianus-poort, Hippodrome, Nympharum, Cardo Maximus, Forum) and a visit to Um Qais (Goland valley, Galilei lake, Mount Tager)

Tja, Jordanië is misschien niet je eerste keuze op dit moment, met alle onrustige landen eromheen (denk bijv. aan Syrië), maar dat moet je niet weerhouden om het land toch te bezoeken. Jordanië zelf is namelijk heel rustig en van het geweld en de Syrische vluchtelingen hebben wij niets gemerkt. Hoogtepunten van onze reis waren (zoals van zovele reizigers) Petra, de Wadi Rum en de Dode Zee. Behalve deze drie geijkte attracties (die je echt niet mag overslaan) heeft Jordanië veel culturele geschiedenis te bieden en zijn er op tal van plaatsen overblijfselen uit de Romeinse tijd te bezichtigen, zoals bijvoorbeeld de Amman citadel met Amfitheater en Hercules Tempel op de Jabal al Qala'a heuvel in de hoofdstad Amman. Of wat te denken van Jerash, de bestbewaarde ruïnestad in het Nabije Oosten, waar een gigantisch complex te bezoeken is met overblijfselen en deels gerestaureerde bouwwerken, o.a. de Artemistempel, Hadianuspoort, Hippodroom etc. In Madaba (gelegen tussen Amman en Aqaba) vind je de Sint Joriskerk, met een mozaïekvloer, die de oudste landkaart van het Heilige Land uitbeeldt (uit het jaar 560). Vanuit Madaba is het maar een klein stukje naar Mount Nebo, waar Mozes volgens de bijbelse overlevering het Beloofde Land voor het eerst aanschouwde. Bij helder weer zijn Jeruzalem en Jericho zichtbaar, maar ook de Dode Zee en de westelijke Jordaanoever. En dan Petra, ongelooflijk mooi. Je bereikt deze uit rotsen gehouwen verborgen stad, door de 2 km lange Siq door te lopen. Let op, de kloof is bezaaid met stenen en keien, wat in het donker niet te zien is. Neem daarom een zaklamp mee als je Petra by night hebt geboekt. Alleen al de Siq is de moeite meer dan waard, maar je eerste blik op de Schatkamer, als je de Siq door bent, is adembenemend! Met de jeep kom je verder de Wadi Rum in en kun je bijvoorbeeld naar de natuurlijke "brug", een rotsformatie die op 20 meter hoogte over een kloof loopt. Bekijk 's nachts ook de geweldige sterrenhemel in de Wadi Rum! Hou wel rekening met eventuele schorpioenen in de woestijn en laat je schoenen 's nachts niet op de grond staan.
De Dode Zee staat bekend om z'n hoge zoutgehalte, waardoor je blijft drijven, een aparte ervaring! Nadeel is dat je de Dode Zee alleen kunt bezoeken via een hotel of resort, maar dat is ook weer een voordeel, omdat je dan ook gebruik kunt maken van de (zoetwater-) douches om al het zout weer van je af te spoelen. Tegen betaling kun je je ook insmeren met mineraalhoudende modder, waar je een zachte huid van krijgt.
In de havenplaats Aqaba kun je naar het strand aan de Rode Zee. Verwacht er niet teveel van, want een mooi strand is het niet en de sanitaire voorzieningen zijn allerbelabberdst. Wel kun je er een (glasbodem-)boot huren, die je verder de zee op brengt, zodat je kunt gaan snorkelen. Vanuit Aqaba is het ook mogelijk om een uitstapje te maken naar Eilat (Egypte).

Omschrijving:
In October (18-25) Joyce and I have visited Jordan for 8 days. We had a late afternoon flight from Amsterdam (Schiphol) to Aqaba and arrived at approx 22.00 at our hotel where we were briefed about the next couple of days.
October 18 we drove from Aqaba to Amman and stopped halfway for floating in the Dead Sea.
October 19 City tour in Amman, visiting the Temple of Hercule, Archeologic Museum, Amman Citadel, Amphi theatre, Museum of Folklore and Jordan Museum
October 20 travel from Amman to Madaba, visiting Jerash (temple of Artemis, Harianus-poort, Hippodrome, Nympharum, Cardo Maximus, Forum) and a visit to Um Qais (Goland valley, Galilei lake, Mount Tager)

Tja, Jordanië is misschien niet je eerste keuze op dit moment, met alle onrustige landen eromheen (denk bijv. aan Syrië), maar dat moet je niet weerhouden om het land toch te bezoeken. Jordanië zelf is namelijk heel rustig en van het geweld en de Syrische vluchtelingen hebben wij niets gemerkt. Hoogtepunten van onze reis waren (zoals van zovele reizigers) Petra, de Wadi Rum en de Dode Zee. Behalve deze drie geijkte attracties (die je echt niet mag overslaan) heeft Jordanië veel culturele geschiedenis te bieden en zijn er op tal van plaatsen overblijfselen uit de Romeinse tijd te bezichtigen, zoals bijvoorbeeld de Amman citadel met Amfitheater en Hercules Tempel op de Jabal al Qala'a heuvel in de hoofdstad Amman. Of wat te denken van Jerash, de bestbewaarde ruïnestad in het Nabije Oosten, waar een gigantisch complex te bezoeken is met overblijfselen en deels gerestaureerde bouwwerken, o.a. de Artemistempel, Hadianuspoort, Hippodroom etc. In Madaba (gelegen tussen Amman en Aqaba) vind je de Sint Joriskerk, met een mozaïekvloer, die de oudste landkaart van het Heilige Land uitbeeldt (uit het jaar 560). Vanuit Madaba is het maar een klein stukje naar Mount Nebo, waar Mozes volgens de bijbelse overlevering het Beloofde Land voor het eerst aanschouwde. Bij helder weer zijn Jeruzalem en Jericho zichtbaar, maar ook de Dode Zee en de westelijke Jordaanoever. En dan Petra, ongelooflijk mooi. Je bereikt deze uit rotsen gehouwen verborgen stad, door de 2 km lange Siq door te lopen. Let op, de kloof is bezaaid met stenen en keien, wat in het donker niet te zien is. Neem daarom een zaklamp mee als je Petra by night hebt geboekt. Alleen al de Siq is de moeite meer dan waard, maar je eerste blik op de Schatkamer, als je de Siq door bent, is adembenemend! In de rotsstad zelf is nog zoveel meer te zien, neem daarom de tijd (liefst meer dan 1 dag) om alles te bezichtigen en laat de kunstig uitgehouwen graven rustig op je inwerken. Als je fit bent, kun je ook de klim wagen naar het Klooster (al Deir). In de rotsstad zijn tal van tentjes waar je wat kunt eten of drinken, dus je kunt er makkelijk een hele dag doorbrengen. Wandel, klauter en klim naar de diverse bouwwerken en laat je niet verleiden om een ezeltje of paard te huren: de dieren worden er als beest behandeld!!
De Wadi Rum is ook prachtig! Als je de mogelijkheid hebt, probeer dan een nacht door te brengen bij de Bedoeïenen, een vriendelijk volk. Reisdetails van Jordanië
Omschrijving:
In October (18-25) Joyce and I have visited Jordan for 8 days. We had a late afternoon flight from Amsterdam (Schiphol) to Aqaba and arrived at approx 22.00 at our hotel where we were briefed about the next couple of days.
October 18 we drove from Aqaba to Amman and stopped halfway for floating in the Dead Sea.
October 19 City tour in Amman, visiting the Temple of Hercule, Archeologic Museum, Amman Citadel, Amphi theatre, Museum of Folklore and Jordan Museum
October 20 travel from Amman to Madaba, visiting Jerash (temple of Artemis, Harianus-poort, Hippodrome, Nympharum, Cardo Maximus, Forum) and a visit to Um Qais (Goland valley, Galilei lake, Mount Tager)
October 21: travel from Madaba to Petra, visiting Madaba (King's Highway, St. Joris Church with mosaic floor. Kerak (Kruisvaardersburcht), Mount Nebo (view on the Dead Sea, westelijke JOrdaan-oever, Jerusalem, Jericho), visit Wadi Al-Mujib, Petra by night

Tja, Jordanië is misschien niet je eerste keuze op dit moment, met alle onrustige landen eromheen (denk bijv. aan Syrië), maar dat moet je niet weerhouden om het land toch te bezoeken. Jordanië zelf is namelijk heel rustig en van het geweld en de Syrische vluchtelingen hebben wij niets gemerkt. Hoogtepunten van onze reis waren (zoals van zovele reizigers) Petra, de Wadi Rum en de Dode Zee. Behalve deze drie geijkte attracties (die je echt niet mag overslaan) heeft Jordanië veel culturele geschiedenis te bieden en zijn er op tal van plaatsen overblijfselen uit de Romeinse tijd te bezichtigen, zoals bijvoorbeeld de Amman citadel met Amfitheater en Hercules Tempel op de Jabal al Qala'a heuvel in de hoofdstad Amman. Of wat te denken van Jerash, de bestbewaarde ruïnestad in het Nabije Oosten, waar een gigantisch complex te bezoeken is met overblijfselen en deels gerestaureerde bouwwerken, o.a. de Artemistempel, Hadianuspoort, Hippodroom etc. In Madaba (gelegen tussen Amman en Aqaba) vind je de Sint Joriskerk, met een mozaïekvloer, die de oudste landkaart van het Heilige Land uitbeeldt (uit het jaar 560). Vanuit Madaba is het maar een klein stukje naar Mount Nebo, waar Mozes volgens de bijbelse overlevering het Beloofde Land voor het eerst aanschouwde. Bij helder weer zijn Jeruzalem en Jericho zichtbaar, maar ook de Dode Zee en de westelijke Jordaanoever. En dan Petra, ongelooflijk mooi. Je bereikt deze uit rotsen gehouwen verborgen stad, door de 2 km lange Siq door te lopen. Let op, de kloof is bezaaid met stenen en keien, wat in het donker niet te zien is. Neem daarom een zaklamp mee als je Petra by night hebt geboekt. Alleen al de Siq is de moeite meer dan waard, maar je eerste blik op de Schatkamer, als je de Siq door bent, is adembenemend! In de rotsstad zelf is nog zoveel meer te zien, neem daarom de tijd (liefst meer dan 1 dag) om alles te bezichtigen en laat de kunstig uitgehouwen graven rustig op je inwerken. Als je fit bent, kun je ook de klim wagen naar het Klooster (al Deir). In de rotsstad zijn tal van tentjes waar je wat kunt eten of drinken, dus je kunt er makkelijk een hele dag doorbrengen. Wandel, klauter en klim naar de diverse bouwwerken en laat je niet verleiden om een ezeltje of paard te huren: de dieren worden er als beest behandeld!!
De Wadi Rum is ook prachtig! Als je de mogelijkheid hebt, probeer dan een nacht door te brengen bij de Bedoeïenen, een vriendelijk volk. In de Wadi Rum kun je tochten maken per jeep (aan te bevelen) of per kameel/dromedaris. Met de jeep kom je verder de Wadi Rum in en kun je bijvoorbeeld naar de natuurlijke "brug", een rotsformatie die op 20 meter hoogte over een kloof loopt. Bekijk 's nachts ook de geweldige sterrenhemel in de Wadi Rum! Hou wel rekening met eventuele schorpioenen in de woestijn en laat je schoenen 's nachts niet op de grond staan.
De Dode Zee staat bekend om z'n hoge zoutgehalte, waardoor je blijft drijven, een aparte ervaring! Nadeel is dat je de Dode Zee alleen kunt bezoeken via een hotel of resort, maar dat is ook weer een voordeel, omdat je dan ook gebruik kunt maken van de (zoetwater-) douches om al het zout weer van je af te spoelen. Tegen betaling kun je je ook insmeren met mineraalhoudende modder, waar je een zachte huid van krijgt.
In de havenplaats Aqaba kun je naar het strand aan de Rode Zee. Verwacht er niet teveel van, want een mooi strand is het niet en de sanitaire voorzieningen zijn allerbelabberdst. Wel kun je er een (glasbodem-)boot huren, die je verder de zee op brengt, zodat je kunt gaan snorkelen. Vanuit Aqaba is het ook mogelijk om een uitstapje te maken naar Eilat (Egypte).

[description] => In October (18-25) Joyce and I have visited Jordan for 8 days. We had a late afternoon flight from Amsterdam (Schiphol) to Aqaba and arrived at approx 22.00 at our hotel where we were briefed about the next couple of days.

Tja, Jordanië is misschien niet je eerste keuze op dit moment, met alle onrustige landen eromheen (denk bijv. aan Syrië), maar dat moet je niet weerhouden om het land toch te bezoeken. Jordanië zelf is namelijk heel rustig en van het geweld en de Syrische vluchtelingen hebben wij niets gemerkt. Hoogtepunten van onze reis waren (zoals van zovele reizigers) Petra, de Wadi Rum en de Dode Zee. Behalve deze drie geijkte attracties (die je echt niet mag overslaan) heeft Jordanië veel culturele geschiedenis te bieden en zijn er op tal van plaatsen overblijfselen uit de Romeinse tijd te bezichtigen, zoals bijvoorbeeld de Amman citadel met Amfitheater en Hercules Tempel op de Jabal al Qala'a heuvel in de hoofdstad Amman. Of wat te denken van Jerash, de bestbewaarde ruïnestad in het Nabije Oosten, waar een gigantisch complex te bezoeken is met overblijfselen en deels gerestaureerde bouwwerken, o.a. de Artemistempel, Hadianuspoort, Hippodroom etc. In Madaba (gelegen tussen Amman en Aqaba) vind je de Sint Joriskerk, met een mozaïekvloer, die de oudste landkaart van het Heilige Land uitbeeldt (uit het jaar 560). Vanuit Madaba is het maar een klein stukje naar Mount Nebo, waar Mozes volgens de bijbelse overlevering het Beloofde Land voor het eerst aanschouwde. Bij helder weer zijn Jeruzalem en Jericho zichtbaar, maar ook de Dode Zee en de westelijke Jordaanoever. En dan Petra, ongelooflijk mooi. Je bereikt deze uit rotsen gehouwen verborgen stad, door de 2 km lange Siq door te lopen. Let op, de kloof is bezaaid met stenen en keien, wat in het donker niet te zien is. Neem daarom een zaklamp mee als je Petra by night hebt geboekt. Alleen al de Siq is de moeite meer dan waard, maar je eerste blik op de Schatkamer, als je de Siq door bent, is adembenemend! In de rotsstad zelf is nog zoveel meer te zien, neem daarom de tijd (liefst meer dan 1 dag) om alles te bezichtigen en laat de kunstig uitgehouwen graven rustig op je inwerken. Als je fit bent, kun je ook de klim wagen naar het Klooster (al Deir). In de rotsstad zijn tal van tentjes waar je wat kunt eten of drinken, dus je kunt er makkelijk een hele dag doorbrengen. Wandel, klauter en klim naar de diverse bouwwerken en laat je niet verleiden om een ezeltje of paard te huren: de dieren worden er als beest behandeld!!
De Wadi Rum is ook prachtig! Als je de mogelijkheid hebt, probeer dan een nacht door te brengen bij de Bedoeïenen, een vriendelijk volk. In de Wadi Rum kun je tochten maken per jeep (aan te bevelen) of per kameel/dromedaris. Met de jeep kom je verder de Wadi Rum in en kun je bijvoorbeeld naar de natuurlijke "brug", een rotsformatie die op 20 meter hoogte over een kloof loopt. Bekijk 's nachts ook de geweldige sterrenhemel in de Wadi Rum! Hou wel rekening met eventuele schorpioenen in de woestijn en laat je schoenen 's nachts niet op de grond staan.
De Dode Zee staat bekend om z'n hoge zoutgehalte, waardoor je blijft drijven, een aparte ervaring! Nadeel is dat je de Dode Zee alleen kunt bezoeken via een hotel of resort, maar dat is ook weer een voordeel, omdat je dan ook gebruik kunt maken van de (zoetwater-) douches om al het zout weer van je af te spoelen. Tegen betaling kun je je ook insmeren met mineraalhoudende modder, waar je een zachte huid van krijgt.
In de havenplaats Aqaba kun je naar het strand aan de Rode Zee. Verwacht er niet teveel van, want een mooi strand is het niet en de sanitaire voorzieningen zijn allerbelabberdst. Wel kun je er een (glasbodem-)boot huren, die je verder de zee op brengt, zodat je kunt gaan snorkelen. Vanuit Aqaba is het ook mogelijk om een uitstapje te maken naar Eilat (Egypte).
